Anxiety Counselling in Basingstoke

When anxiety starts to take over

Anxiety can affect far more than how you feel in the moment. It can influence your thoughts, relationships, work, sleep and confidence, and sometimes it can feel as though your mind never gets a chance to switch off.

You may spend a lot of time worrying about what might happen, replaying conversations, anticipating problems or feeling that you need to stay in control. You might know that your worries aren't always rational, but still find it difficult to stop them.

Perhaps you've been coping for a long time, but things have started to feel overwhelming.

If you're looking for anxiety counselling in Basingstoke, I offer a confidential and supportive space where we can explore what's happening for you and begin to understand your anxiety.

How anxiety can show up

Everyone experiences anxiety differently. You might notice:

  • Constant worrying or overthinking

  • Feeling overwhelmed or unable to switch off

  • Racing thoughts

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Feeling on edge or irritable

  • Low confidence or self-doubt

  • Avoiding situations because they feel difficult or frightening

  • Feeling overwhelmed by social situations

  • Physical symptoms such as a racing heart, tension or a feeling of panic

  • Finding everyday decisions difficult

  • Worrying about what other people think of you

  • Feeling exhausted from constantly trying to keep everything under control

Sometimes there isn't one obvious reason for anxiety. You may simply feel that you've reached a point where you're struggling to cope with things that previously felt manageable.

You don't have to wait until anxiety becomes unbearable before seeking support.

Understanding what's behind your anxiety

Counselling isn't about simply telling yourself to "stop worrying".

Together, we can explore what your anxiety might be trying to tell you and what may be contributing to it.

This might include looking at:

  • Patterns of worry and overthinking

  • Previous experiences that continue to affect you

  • Relationships and how they influence your sense of safety

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • Stress and burnout

  • Difficult life changes

  • Feeling that you need to meet other people's expectations

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Neurodiversity and the ways ADHD or autism may affect your experience of anxiety

For some neurodivergent people, anxiety can be closely connected with feeling overwhelmed, masking, sensory experiences, uncertainty or trying to navigate environments that don't feel designed for them.

If neurodiversity is part of your experience, we can explore this together as part of your counselling.

Anxiety and relationships

Anxiety can also affect the way we relate to other people.

You might worry about being rejected, find it difficult to express how you're feeling, constantly seek reassurance or become caught in cycles of misunderstanding and conflict.

Sometimes anxiety can lead us to withdraw, while at other times we may find ourselves trying very hard to keep other people happy.

Counselling can provide a space to understand these patterns and explore different ways of relating to yourself and others.

Counselling for anxiety in Basingstoke

I offer face-to-face anxiety counselling in Basingstoke, as well as online counselling across the UK.

My approach is collaborative and person-centred. This means that counselling isn't about me telling you what you should do. Instead, we'll work together to understand your experiences and what you would like to change.

You don't need to know exactly why you're anxious or have everything worked out before you contact me.

You can simply start with what's happening for you now.

What happens in counselling?

Our first sessions give us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you're finding difficult.

We'll take things at a pace that feels manageable for you.

There may be times when we explore what is happening in your life now, and other times when it is helpful to understand experiences from the past or patterns that have developed over time.

The aim isn't to judge or "fix" you. It's to provide a safe space where you can understand yourself more fully and consider what you might want to be different.

How much does anxiety counselling cost?

Individual counselling sessions are £55 for 50 minutes.

I also offer a free 30-minute initial consultation. This gives you the opportunity to talk about what you're experiencing, ask any questions and decide whether you feel I could be the right counsellor for you.

There is no obligation to continue.
